Florida vacation

We are enjoying a family vacation in Florida. We finished our 2 year tour in Brazil and have about 5 weeks of home leave before Kurt has to start Hindi training in January. We're spending most of that time with Isaac and Nadia in VA but wanted to get away as a family for a while. We rented a home in Key Largo for a week and it's super cute. The kids are enjoying the creatures we've seen so far. They've seen a HUGE manatee, several iguanas, a sting ray, and some other small fish. We're in a bay and so the ocean is super calm and we've gone out on kayaks several times, too. The only down side is that the beaches in the Keys are super rocky and so we've been disappointed by that. Tomorrow we plan on driving up to Miami beach and snorkeling. But today we went to a water park and the kids had so much fun. 82 degree weather in December, it's almost like we never left Brazil!

Noah learned how to use snorkels today and was so proud of himself! He loves the water!

Max is the luckiest little boy because he has 4 older siblings who will do anything for him. Aja was by his side for a lot of the day making sure he didn't slip anywhere and going down slides with him. He wanted the goggles on because he's always trying to keep up with Noah, doing everything he's doing. At one point while I had my head turned for 5 seconds, Max fell into the big pool. I think he slipped and I heard a splash and Macy yelled, "Max!" and he was struggling in the water. He had on his large life vest so he was floating but half of his head was under water. It was so horrible. But it was only for 2 or 3 seconds and I pulled him out. It just goes to show that it only takes a few seconds. At the end of the day Max was upset because his fingers were so wrinkly and the tips were pink. He kept looking at his fingers and crying saying, "My fingers are pink!" He even said, "I don't like pink, pink is for girls!"

School Fun Run

The kid's school had a Fun Run where they met on a Saturday morning and raced according to their ages and grades.  Zoe raced with 2nd and fellow 3rd graders and came in 2nd.

Aja raced with 4th, fellow 5th, and 6th graders and she got 2nd.

Go, Zoe!

Noah ran with other Kindergarteners and 1st graders and got 2nd (the boy who beat him was in 1st grade!).  We explained to the kids that what was most important was that they did their best and never gave up.

Go, Aja!

Uncle Kevin cheered them on.

Clue

Macy was in another school play called "Clue", based on the board game. She had a solo and stole the show! We are so proud of her.

Stand Up Paddle

The girls and I have been enjoying the lake near our home, Lake Paranoa by going stand up paddling on Saturdays. We have a beautiful view of the lake from our back porch, but being on it is amazing and so peaceful. It's such a fun and easy sport and the girls keep saying they are "addicted" to it.
The bridge you see in the background is called the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge. We live close to it and cross it on almost a daily basis.

Noah

Noah is so full of life and on a daily basis makes me smile. Some of the things that he's doing and saying:
-He keeps asking when his party for when he turns 6-and-a- half is going to be.
-Almost every morning (although I've noticed that he isn't doing it as much lately *sad*) he wakes up and jumps on our bed and gives Kurt and I a kiss on the cheek and whispers to each of us, "You get one of these (meaning kisses) every day".

-His favorite thing is jiu jitsu right now and he takes classes at school once a week. He's so proud of all the "jiu jitsu" moves that he's learning and is always anxious to show us. He came home from school and said that during p.e. he fell but then did a "jiu jitsu roll" and that his p.e. teacher (who happens to be his jiu jitsu instructor) was so proud of him. He went on to demonstrate his fall-and-jiu-jitsu-roll and it was awesome!

-Noah was still trying to understand as much about India as he could wrap his 6 year old mind around and he said, "I think I'm going to like India....wait....do they have donuts in India?" (after Kurt googled it, we found out that they plan on opening 300 Dunkin Donuts in the next 10 years) We think he'll like it there.
-Noah gives the BEST hugs. Usually first thing home from school he'll jump up in my arms and wrap his arms and legs around my body, putting all of his strength and love into the hug. It's one of my favorite things in the world.
